Dr. Therese O’Neil-Pirozzi, CCC-SLP

Dr. O’Neil-Pirozzi founded and directs the Cognitive-Community Integration Lab, which has three primary purposes: 1)  to conduct research targeting cognitive-communication functioning, life participation, and quality of life across the lifespan of individuals with and without acquired brain injuries; 2)  to provide education and advocacy regarding cognitive-communication functioning across the lifespan in individuals with and without acquired brain injury; 3) to provide community service to maximize the cognitive-communicative functioning of ALL individuals across the lifespan. 
 
Dr. O’Neil-Pirozzi remains a practicing clinician, which informs the research, education, and service in which the Lab engages with a variety of diverse stakeholder community partners. Of particular interest to the Lab are cognitive exercise, memory, motivation, and health/language literacy. One of Dr. O’Neil-Pirozzi’s many life mottos is: “The glass is either half empty or half full – your choice.”

Yobella Cook, B.S. Candidate in Health Science

​Yobella is a third-year undergraduate student at Northeastern University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Health Science with a minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her current research interests include aphasia, neurodegenerative disorders, and cognitive exercise related to traumatic brain injuries. She is also passionate about communicating in different languages and has translated several screening tools for the lab. In the future, Yobella is interested in working in a clinical setting either as a physician or as a speech-language pathologist. Her life motto is, “A life spent helping others is a life filled with purpose”.

Colette Reiche M.S. Candidate Speech Language Pathology

Colette is a second year graduate student in the Master’s of Speech Language Pathology Program. She is from a northwest suburb of Chicago, recieving a Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of Iowa majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Psychology. Her interests include swallowing, cognitive and neurogenic disorders, aural rehabilitation and early intervention. Her words to live by are “Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.”

Sydney Bates

Sydney graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University  with a certification in  Early Intervention certificate in 2024.  Sydney is from Mystic, CT. Sydney received her B.A. from the University of Connecticut with a minor in Spanish. She was involved in a research lab that looked at speech and language processing in the brain for monolingual and bilingual speakers. Sydney was an SLPA for a year before starting at Northeastern. She is interested in working with patients recovering from TBI, Aphasia, and Early Intervention. Sydney’s motto is, “Life is a one time offer, use it well.”

Jingwen Li

Jingwen graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2024. Jingwen was raised in Cupertino, CA. She previously studied at the University of the Pacific, where she received a BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Jingwen is interested in working with bilingual patients in a medical setting, specifically bilingual patients with Traumatic Brain injuries. She hopes to work with adults in the future and maybe children of a specific age group. Jingwen’s life motto is, “Every path has its puddle.” 

Donatella DiPietrantonio

Donatella  graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2024.  I am from a small town north of Boston known as Boxford, MA. A few aspects of the field I feel passionate about include inpatient acute care, swallowing, and cognition. A motto I like to live by is “Mind over matter!”

Cristel Ho

Cristel graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2024. She received her B.A. in Anthropology and Linguistics from Brandeis University with a minor in Legal Studies. Cristel’s research interests include language ideology, quality of life, and voice disorders. She hopes to work across the lifespan in the areas of voice and cognitive-communication needs. Cristel’s current motto is, “I guess we’ll find out!”

Adel Buff

Adel graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2023.  She previously studied at the University of New Hampshire and has a BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Adel is interested in working at hospitals, providing rehabilitation for patients recovering from Traumatic Brain injuries as well as acute elderly care. Previously, Adel assisted in research performed at the Brigham assessing remission and return of MS in pregnant women. Her motto is “This too Shall Pass” 

Joanna Lubin

​Joanna graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2023.  She is originally from Florida, where she studied Linguistics and Spanish at the University of Florida. At UF, Joanna assisted in research focused on spoken language in adolescents with hearing loss. In the future, Joanna hopes to work with voice disorders and the dysphagia population. Her life motto is “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable”.

Rachel Alexander

Rachel graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2023. Rachel was born and raised in Gloucester, Massachusetts. She attended the University of Connecticut where she obtained her B.A. in speech and language hearing sciences with minors in psychology and human development family studies. At UConn Rachel was a research participant in a lab focusing on Developmental Language Delay outcomes in young children, adolescents, and adults. Her clinical interests include adults with Traumatic Brain Injuries, Aphasia, and Dysphagia. Rachel’s life motto is, “You are enough”.

Sarah Jeudy

​Sarah graduated from the Speech-Language Pathology program at Northeastern University in 2023. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is interested in working with adults who have suffered ABI/TBI and pre-mature babies with feeding/swallowing. Sarah’s motto is, “Let Go, Let God.”

Meredith Adams

Meredith attended Stonehill College, where she obtained her B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Speech-Language Pathology. At Stonehill, Meredith conducted research focusing on bilingual aphasic adults using techniques such as EEG and eye-tracking software. Her current research and clinical interests include neuropsychology, neurodegenerative disorders, neuroplasticity, stroke, and mental health and its relations to speech. Meredith’s life motto is, “There’s always tomorrow.”

Haley Bouchard

Haley graduated from Northeastern University in 2021 studying Health Science with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. She has interests in aphasia and other neurological speech disorders and plans to apply to graduate school for speech language pathology. Haley’s life motto is, “Assess, adjust, and move forward.”

Christine Brennick

Christine graduated from Northeastern in 2021. She completed her undergraduate degrees at UMass Amherst. Christine’s clinical interests include cognitive communicative rehabilitation post TBI and CVA as well as pediatric and adult dysphagia. Christine is interested in research surrounding general cognitive communicative rehabilitation and the benefits of yoga and mindfulness during cognitive communicative rehabilitation. Christine’s life motto is, “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.”

Paige Wikman, M.S. Candidate Speech-Language Pathology

Paige is a second-year graduate at Northeastern University pursuing a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. Paige completed her bachelor’s degree studying Communication Sciences and Disorders at Penn State University. Paige’s professional and career goals are to provide therapy/treatment to adults with neurodegenerative diseases and continue her advocacy for Huntington’s Disease. My life motto is: “opportunities don’t happen, you create them.”

Sydney Hecht

She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Communication Sciences, certificate in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine, and minor in French. Sydney has a broad range of clinical interests including developmental disabilities in the pediatric population, aphasia in the adult population, and multicultural clients throughout the lifespan. Her life motto is: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

Annika Briggs

She holds a B.A. in Communication Sciences & Disorders and minor in Psychology from Pace University. At Pace, Annika assisted in research focusing on phonetic accommodation. Her current research and clinical interests include psycholinguistics, neurodegenerative disorders, AAC, patient-provider communication, and mental health literacy. Annika’s life motto is, “Change begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Zehra Husnain

Zehra Husnain graduated from Northeastern in 2020. She is a Speech-Language Pathologist working with various neurological disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, and Intellectual Disability. She completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and her Masters degree at Northeastern University. Zehra’s clinical interests include cognitive communicative rehabilitation and language. Her research with Dr. O’Neil-Pirozzi has been focused on the connection between physical exercise and cognition, as well as the development of individualized cognitive exercise programs for TBI survivors. Zehra’s life motto is “Everything happens for a reason.”

Amelia Jones

Amelia graduated from Northeastern in 2021. She completed her undergraduate degrees at the University of California, Santa Barbara in both in Sociology and Linguistics with an emphasis on Speech-Language Sciences and Disorders. Her interests in the field of Speech-Language Pathology include Aphasia, acquired brain injuries, voice disorders, and accent modification. In the lab, she is currently participating in the development of a screening tool examining perceptions of nonverbal emotions in movies. Her life motto is: “The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.”

Kira Maidenberg

Kira grew up in Oakland, CA and completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she studied Sociology and Linguistics. Kira also earned her Associates Degree in American Sign Language at Santa Barbara Community College. In her future, Kira is interested in working in a pediatric medical setting and is interested in aphasia, traumatic brain injuries, and dysphagia. Kira’s life motto is “Live and Let Live”.

Samantha Mills

Samantha graduated from Northeastern in 2021. She is from Tampa, Florida where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Samantha is interested in working with individuals who have cognitive-communication impairments, specifically survivors of traumatic brain injuries and strokes. A life motto that she appreciates is, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become” by Carl Jung.

Sierra Still

Sierra graduated from Northeastern in 2021. She received her B.A. from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2019 and is originally from San Francisco, CA. She has a wide-range of interests in the field of speech-language pathology including; traumatic brain injuries, cognitive impairments, severe communication needs, AAC, and ensuring intervention is functional for each client she sees. Sierra highly values interpersonal relationships and really enjoys connecting with her clients, families, and professors! Sierra’s life motto is “striving to help others build their confidence and reach their potential.”

Margaret Reagan

Margaret graduated from Northeastern University’s Speech-Language Pathology master’s program in 2021. Margaret attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as a certificate in developmental disabilities and health services. Her interests in the field of speech-language pathology include both pediatric and adult neurological impairments, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, and social communication. Margaret’s life motto is, “Kindness – it costs nothing, but means everything.”

Sofia Stratford

Sofia graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Spanish. She is interested in working with adults who have neurogenic speech and language disorders. Sofia’s life motto is, “Be the energy you want to attract”.

Narineh Torosyan

Narineh graduated from Northeastern University in 2021. She also graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and a minor in Human Development. After graduating in 2021, Narineh plans to work with the adult, traumatic brain injury population in the medical setting. Narineh’s life motto is, “Act the way you want to feel.”

Amanda Wynn

Amanda graduated from Northeastern’s Masters of Speech Language Pathology Program in 2021. Her interests within the field include adults focusing on Dysphagia, TBI and cognitive/communicative difficulties. She has had many clinical experiences including the school setting, adult acute inpatient and outpatient, and pediatric outpatient. She hopes to continue to work with the adult population in her future career. Her life motto is “Everything happens for a reason”.
